My response:

I do not know yet.  I do not have an official nice microphone to test
it with.  I do have an old stereo microphone that would plug into a 
nice walkman.  The plug is affixed to the 3/4" square microphone.
There is no wire.  It is a pointy plug, I imagine like a regular
microphone, but , since I do not have an expensive microphone with the
jack attached to it, I do not know for sure.  There is no power that
comes out of that little microphone.  

Does the camcorder send a little power to that microphone through the
microphone jack?

Do you think that is a safe little microphone to test it with?
