OTOH, your lowest common denominator is VCD format that you mentioned.  VCD
is lower quality than VHS Video.

If it helps, we can source the Canon MV6iMC for you at $1500 Inc GST.  Then
claim back the $136 GST back, you end up with a price of $1364.  Still a lot
more than $800, but you will get a more usable camera.
