Posting them to newsgroups is not as big a problem as P2P filesharing.

As others noted, it was the appearance of episodes before they aired. I
predicted this when the postings first started.

But now the posters are doing it after they air on the networks, which
I don't think can ever be stopped since the viewable images come from
the air/DSS/cable and have the logos in the corner.  This is actually
useful if you miss an episode of a show, and don't care about lower
quality.

Difficult with current P2P software for filesharing, but it can be done.
The latest software lets people download bits and pieces of files from
as many other people's PCs as possible, and reassembles the pieces as it
receives them.  It would not be worth it to go after tens of thousands
of people for doing this (although the RIAA thinks it is, by forcing ISPs
to match IP address logs to names and sending them notices of civil
lawsuits -- it's all over the tech magazines).
