Re: First time subscriber... not happy with DirecTV picture quality.

Well, we had DirecTV send out a "tech" to try and help our picture quality and for the first 30-45 minutes the guys just would NOT listen to my wife or I. He said that we just were not used to the "crystal clear picture" that DirecTV offers...

Even when the picture would block out he just wouldn't say anything was wrong and that the picture "looked perfect". So much so he said "that since we now had DTV, we'd be able to see when people have pimples or blemishes"... Oh God, does this guy even open his eyes?

He then proceeded to tell us that if we had cable, we'd see that it was a poor alternative to DTV since DTV is digital. (to which I replied, "Uh... we do. All I have to do is remove your tuners and re-arrange the cable outside." :) )

Can you believe this guy? I know my wife and I couldn't.

Finally... after me going up to the screen and pointing to every little block that popped up, he saw he was fighting a losing battle. It's almost like he flicked a switch in his head that said "the gig is up, these people know the picture isn't that good". ;) He proceeded to tell us that he'd note in the trouble ticket that we were definitely not pleased with the picture quality and he said for me to call DTV on Monday and more than likely, they will let us get out of the 1 year contract. After he told me that, he also mentioned the New York State has a "30-day satisfaction guarantee" type law that says a company must let you out of a contract if you are not satisfied. (I've never heard of this but he said to mention it to the DTV people if they were not leaning towards letting us out)

At any rate, I'll just be happy when this is finally over. I hate the fact that we are paying Time Warner $45 for basic cable and that our rates have risen 4 times in the past two years for basically nothing. But I do have to say that they have a better picture(in our area at least) than DTV(again, in our area at least).

As someone mentioned in an earlier post, they're apparently launching a new
satellite soon. I can't wait. The picture quality has been steadily
degrading for the last few months. At first I thought it was me, as I have
recently purchased a hdtv tuner for my 47" television, and thought that dtv
was just looking bad in comparison. After posting a few questions in these
newsgroups though, it became clear that it was directv's problem. The big
question for you is what are your alternatives? Dish network supposedly has
a worse picture than directv. Digital cable is hit or miss. My father in
law has bright house, and his picture is awesome on a tv larger than mine.
A friend has brighthouse in another city, and his picture is no better than
my dtv.

I'm seeing more and more dissatisfaction on these forums about quality.
Lets just hope dtv is hearing the same thing, and will do something about
it.
