You mentioned you had good signal strength... is that on all transponders?
I would recommend making a list of channels you find particularly
troublesome and looking up their transponder at
http://www.dbsforums.com/dbs/DTV101.htm .  If they are all on one or two
transponders, then it could be an install issue.
