Considering the high percentage of stuff that might be worth watching that
is lost, destroyed, or tied up with some sort of copyright hassle, or simply
isn't worth watching to enough people to justify the expense, I'd say never.

I watch a lot of stuff on satellite that's available on DVD. Recording it on
my Tivo is easier and cheaper than renting it (to say nothing of buying it)
at the local store.
