You don't say how much you're paying for DVD media.  The maximum I ever 
pay, after taxes, shipping and handling, is $1.00 per blank.  More 
commonly, it's around .72.  That's acceptably close to 7x the .10 a 
blank for CD media, since DVD media gives 7x the storage capacity.  I 
don't see what's wrong with that.
