Re: Panasonic DMR-E80 noise?

Here is a copy of the email I got from Panasonic Tech Support on this
question and several others, Information that is not in their manual.

==============================================
Dear Mr. Thomas

Re: Thank you for your inquiry. We have provided the answers to your
questions below.

1. What is the fastest speed that the DMR-E80H will write a DVD-R
internally (1x, 2x, or 4x)?

A: The DMR-E80H will allow you to record at 4x speed when using high
speed dubbing.

2. What speed disks (non-panasonic) should I buy (1x, 2x, or 4x), I
have been using Sony 4X blanks. This is for my personal use only, can
I use the bulk 1x/2x/4x disks (G04 - Grade A).

A: In general we recommend that you use Panasonic, Pioneer, and TDK
brand general media DVD-R discs. For high-speed dubbing we recommend
4x general media discs.

3. What specs are the ideal for DVD-R for this recorder? Grade A, G04,
General....

Please see the answer to question 2.

4. What are the recording rates for the various speeds, XP/SP/LP/EP.
(ie.704x480, 352x480).

A: The picture size stays the same, the amount of data sampled is what
changes.

XP=10 mbps
SP=5 mbps
LP=2.5 mbps
EP=1.7 mbps

5. I am dubbing VCR tapes made from Cable/TV, generally in SLP (6
hours / Tape). What would be the best record to HDD to use to get the
best possible cut from the tape?

A: We recommend that you use the SP speed to maintain the quality of
the tape.

6. If I burn at High Speed, does that make the finalized DVD's any
less compatible with other DVD players?

A: No, but some DVD players may not play back any type of high speed
recordable DVD-R's.

7. Does the recording speed to HDD make ANY difference in the quality
ofthe recording on the HDD?

A: No.

Thank You,
Panasonic Consumer Support
