The term "1X speed" does not directly relate to the playing time of the
recorded program.  A "1X" recorder can completely fill a 4.7 GB disk in
1 hour.  A "4X" recorder could transfer that same 4.7 GB in 15 minutes.
If your E80 is copying 2 hours of video to DVD-R in 35 minutes, then
that video must have been recorded on the HDD in LP mode.  You are
filling half of a DVD-R disk in that 35 minutes, and that equates to
"1X" writing speed.  That's the way my E80 behaves regardless of the
speed of the DVD-R media I am using (1X, 2X, or 4X).

When writing to DVD-RAM, the E80 can fill a 4.7 GB disk in 30 minutes,
which equates to 2X speed.
