Yes it is :) Once the DVD / VCR Combo player will allow you to watch a DVD while also recording a TV programme (not all combo players allow this) then it will work fine. The new Sony SLV-D900 will allow direct dubbing also but only if the disk is not 'copyright protected'. If say for instance you had a DVD of something you burned to DVD-r of the net - then you can use the direct dubbing feature to copy this with no fuss. However, if you wish to record DVDs that you rent then you will need to pass the out going signal from the DVD part of the combo machine through a 'macrovision killer' (there are a whole bunch outthere) and then run it into the 'input' of the VCR part of the Combo machine. The Combo will not be able to tell the difference between the DVD signal and just an ordinary cable / aerial signal. Just tune the DVD signal into the VCR as you would any other TV station. Or you could just get a chipped DVD player and a nice 4 Head Nicam VCR. The Sony combo is good though. BB
