Daewoo DV6T844B - Will it play JPEG pictures?

I bought one of these units for my parents to bring them into the dvd
age.  I wanted a combo unit that would play their old VHS tapes and
give them a chance to see what dvds look like.  The box for the
DV6T844B does not list JPEG capability, but the Best Buy website does.

, shows the unit is Kodak Photo CD capable. Isn't Kodak photo cd the
same as JPEG compatible? I tried the unit with DVD, DVD-R, CD, MP3 and
all worked fine.  However, JPEG discs on CD-R or DVD-R gave a "Bad
Disc" message from the player. Is there a way to view JPEGs with this
unit or is it possibly defective?  What's a good low priced
alternative? TIA.
