At Sears, for only $399, less than other stand-alone DVD recorders. I saw one at a Sears store, and then looked up to find more info on the Internet, and could only find info on the Sears web site at: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=ELEC&pid=05757103000 or http://tinyurl.com/wwxe Doesn't give much info on the DVD-recording part. In fact, I could not find a web site for the manufacturer, Sansui Electronics, in English, only one in Japanese, which I cannot read. Anyone know of an English web site for that company, to find out more about this product? I suspect they might make it only for Sears, as I could not find any other online retailer selling it. Even a Google search, leading to the usual tons of price compare sites, all lead to Sears. Why am I interested in perhaps getting a consumer stand-alone DVD recorder, when I already can do that with my computer, having a video capture device and DVD burner? Because, it would seem to be a much easier way to do it with a consumer model, could be programmed to record any time, wouldn't tie up my computer, etc. Of course not the same editing capabilities, but one usually doesn't do much editing in recording from TV. Why one with a VCR, when I already have a VCR? For one thing, this unit's price is less than those without a VCR, such as the Panasonic models. And, it would be an element of convenience to have both in one unit, less units to hook up and wires to connect them, less AC plugs to go in the wall, less separate remote controls, etc. For recording VHS-->DVD or DVD-->VHS it might be simpler to have both in one unit, especially since it sells at a lower price than the other stand-alone DVD recorders. However, I don't know if it's as good a unit as other DVD recorders. I don't see much in the specs at the link above about its DVD recording features. Is there something I missed. Could anyone tell more from looking at the link above? Anyone know of other links? Anyone actually tried one of these units? I guess if one waits a year or two there will be many more models of DVD recorders, including in combination with VCRs, and the prices will drop a lot. Perhaps I should wait, and just use my computer for now. But this Sansui model is tempting. Anyone know anything more about it?
