How Soon Before Everything Worth Watching is On A DVD

With Star Wars 4/5/6 said to be coming out sometime in 2004 it has set
me to wondering when will the day come when everything worth watching
(from a 50's TV show to one that came out within the last year to any
movie made in the last 100 years) can be found on a dvd?

And when that day does come what will the impact be on things like
Cable/Dish TV,Movie Plexes (and so on) when the home viewer can one
day sooner or later have the ability to sit in his/hers own living
room and watch a commercial free digital quality movie/tv show on a
200 inch plasma screen with stereo sound day or night (and with a
pause button to boot)?
