bang for the buck

I've been a long time user of many video editing products, finally
settling on a combination of the realtime hardware editing solution of
Storm by Canopus, in conjunction with the premiere software package.

My humble 1.7 ghz machine plows through video like a tree mulcher.

The unfortunate circumstance of going this route was the cost. when I
built my system I easily spent close to 6 grand, not including the
camera, extra hard drives, external monitor etc...

I have just built a powerhouse for less than 1500 that equals my
previous system, using Canopus' new software editing and periphery
apps.

The purpose of this post is to praise Canopus, and its current dive
into the consumer market. to have Canopus quality and simplicity
available to me for the cost of a couple weeks groceries is a
blessing. I dont feel like spending my life savings on something that
is merely a lucrative hobby.

Check out what they have put out. I believe that these solutions will
soon be the norm on all home editing machines, profesional or
hobbyist. We're talking serious horsepower here, and if you get
everything they offer in the consumer range, you're still spending
less than half as much as you would on some other "software-only"
solution.
