Folks, I've been using Pinnacle Studio 8 for my video editing and it's been somewhat limiting (as you can imagine). I'd alo had a number of problems cutting DVD's, but at least at the moment, that issue seems to be sorted out. My video editing is limited to consolidating a years worth of home video tapes into a 1 hour DVD with DVD menus. I also cut a few DVD and MPEG movies from time to time for folks when their kids are part of an activity my son is involved in. I don't need professional level tools, but I prefer working with good quality tools in any case. I've used Studio 8 enough to know that it absolutely does not classify as a good quality tool :-). I've just built a new computer that will be primarily used for video editing. The system is pretty well setup and would be considered a high performance system (at least for the next 6 months). Now, I need to figure out my new direction for video editing. With the new DVD burner I picked up with the new computer, I received a copy of ULEAD VideoStudio 7 SE and have been trying it out a bit. Compared to Studio 8, I'm impressed. I've done a bit of research between ULEAD, Pinnacle and Adobe Premier. Pinnacle seems to always come out on the short end (not surprising considering my experience). It appears that ULEAD comes out reasonably well compared to Premier in general (religous wars not withstanding :-). That's a long intro to a few basic questions. 1) What's the difference between the "SE" version of VideoStudio 7 and the "full" version. The SE versoin seems to be reasonably complete from what I can see and it's got about the same level of capabilities as the full consumer version of Pinnacle Studio 8, but I haven't dug in yet, so that may not be an accurate perspective. 2) What's the difference between the full version of VideoStudio 7 and the Pro version? It appears from the CD provided with the DVD burner that ULEAD has a few tools they provide. From what I can tell, it appears that the product fall into the following categories: Movie Creation Tools: VideoStudio 7 - more flexible and complete tool MovieFactory - a simplified movie creation tool that backs up to VideoStudio PictureShow - an automated method to create slideshows of pictures What I can't tell is what's provided with the consumer version of VideoStudio. I suppose my overall question is, for my application - does the consumer version of VideoStudio make sense? Looking forward to any replies folks may have.
