>>>>>> 2. When should one pay? On the way in, or on the way out? I always pay on the way out. There are many places where the price is given, some not. When not, then 20 cents or 25 cents would seem find. I have been to places where the attendants constantly remove anything smaller than 50 cent pieces from the dishes, so that people coming in see 50 cents and will assume that is the correct price! My worst experience was at a shopping mall in Germany. As I was 'pinkling' I was rifling through my change to see if I had enough for the 50 pfennig fee. I was counting every last coin and was delighted that I JUST had enough (though it was a mittful of small coins). On the way out I put it in the dish, and then 40 seconds later an attendant came running after me screaming that I was three pfennig short, and that it was not the money it was the PRINCIPLE of the thing that was making her come out and scream bloody murder at me in a crowded mall hallway. That was one for the ages.
