Virgin Blue is not always the cheapest, especially if you travel during
normal business hours - so it is best to to a best price check on both
airlines. If Qantas provides the same or cheaper fare, consider that they
provide on-board snacks/light meals and soft drinks at no charge. Every
little bit helps when on a budget. ;-)

There will be a new player (JetStar) in the market in December, so it may be
worth looking into them http://www.jetstar.com.au/ They are a subsidary of
Qantas, so they won't go the way of the other "third airline" contenders
that we have had in the past. Unfortunately, the web site is essentially
empty at the moment.
