Hmmm... Well seeing as a sensible time for touring NZ varies for everyone but 2-6 weeks is the starting point for most people, he could easily spend his whole time here. If a month is all he has got, then don't try to do both countries. And Aussie is one hell of a lot bigger. Even with flying a lot, covering the areas you have listed will take up a month without a problem. He needs to find either more time or less places to visit.
