>From time to time there are a few interesting links to be found in the alt.nudism.moderated newsgroup, it's essentially a private newsgroup with public distribution, listing pointers to newspaper articles that are more or less related to nudity. Last month it referenced an article in the Northern Territory News about a worsening problem at the top end's nude beach, Casuarina Beach, and it's a perennial problem that most beach nudists can relate to. Here's what it reported: Angry nudists want perverts ban By Rajiv Maharaj August 18, 2003 TERRITORY nudists want clothed people banned from nude beaches, saying many are perverts. The nudists are outraged with an increase in the number of "men in shorts" lurking behind pine trees in Casuarina's free beach area. "They shouldn't be allowed at the beach if they don't want to take their clothes off," an angry female nudist said yesterday. "It's a big problem because we know they are up to no good and it puts the female nudists right off - we don't like being gawked at." Another woman said she had seen people taking pictures with sophisticated camera equipment, including tripods and long-range telephoto lenses. "I've seen them shooting pictures from the scrub which is just disgusting," she said. "They should put a sign up - if you go to the nude beach, get your bloody gear off. "You have no business strolling through a nude beach with your clothes on - that's just being a dirty pervert and we've had enough." Garry and Jean Parr run the NT's only nude resort, the Top End Recreation Retreat at Darwin River, outside Darwin. They said their guests were increasingly Darwin residents who no longer felt safe or comfortable in the nude at the Casuarina free beach. "People have had very negative experiences," Mr Parr said. "They might be sunning themselves, and they'll turnaround and see some bloke in the bushes staring at them and playing with himself. "Interstate visitors who stay with us and visit the beach say the same thing - it's just not a pleasant experience at all." Adelaide naturists Brian and Jen, a retired couple who visit Darwin every dry season to sunbake, said "peeping Toms" were common. "It does happen and we deal with it," Brian said. "If someone positions themselves next to us and just stares, we let them know in no uncertain terms that we don't want them there. "There's always going to be that element who are there for the wrong reason - why else would you go to a nude beach with your clothes on?" When the Northern Territory News visited the beach yesterday, there were about 12 men walking through the pine trees fully dressed - many of them just casually moving backwards and forwards but in no apparent direction.
