Notre Dame at Stanford [WVB results]

As always, the results are down a page, in case anyone is trying
to avoid them.

The official word came in just before I sent this, so it's at the end.

Before the match, Stanford had a flower for each of the Notre Dame
seniors, and then brought out Stanford's five seniors with their
families.

I finally decided that I was not up to the three or four hours of
driving to go to Stockton for Pittsburgh - UAB and Oregon State -
Pacific, so here I am.

And here come the results, down one page.

That should be enough.

Stanford won, 30-28, 30-24, 30-24. The side-out scores were 11-10,
14-8, 12-7.

Notre Dame played: Kristen Kinder (S; Carolyn Cooper came in to play
front row once in each of the first two games - Kelly Burrell came in
to set at that time, although Cooper stayed in on one play in game
one after Burrell subbed out - I didn't notice at the time who set, if
they needed a set), Jessica Kinder (OPP), Lauren Brewster (MB; Kim
Fletcher came in to serve once in game three, and stayed to play back
row until Brewster returned to the front row), Emily Loomis (MB;
Danielle Herndon usually came in to serve and play back row, but
once in game one and once in game two, Loomis served and played back
row until Kristen Kinder rotated to the front, at which point Burrell
came in for Loomis and Cooper replaced Kristen Kinder), Lauren
Kelbely (OH), and Katie Neff (OH). Libero Meg Henican played for the
outside hitters.

Stanford played: Anna Robinson (S; Katie Goldhahn played all the back
row and most of the front row in game one; Robinson was in only for
the last play of game two, and not at all in game three), Jenn Hucke
(OPP; Jamie Brownell got into game three to serve a couple of times,
and stayed to play a little back row), Jen Harvey (MB; Courtney
Schultz came in for two plays in the back row in game one), Sara Dukes
(MB; Leahi Hall come in to serve and play back row once in game three,
splitting time with the libero, who came in for serve receive; Sara
McGee played some front row and served in game three), Kristin
Richards (OH) and Ogonna Nnamani (OH). Hall was the libero for game
one; Schultz was the libero for games two and three.

Scoring (Stanford score first; Notre Dame won the toss and elected to
serve first in game one, so Stanford served first in game two and
Notre Dame served first in game three):

Game One:

but Nnamani got a kill off the block for the game].
[per the PA announcer, Notre Dame hit .293 with two blocks, led by
Brewster and Neff with five kills each; Stanford hit .310 with
one block, led by Nnamani with 9 kills]

Game Two:
  ,,,1-2 1-4 ,,,,,4-6 6-6 [it should have become 7-6, but the refs
allowed a third hit from outside the post (and from my angle,
across the net) - it appeared to be physically impossible to
make a legal third hit from that point, but the referees disagreed
    with me, and with the crowd] ,,7-7 11-7 ,11-8 11-9 ,12-9.
  14-9 ,,,,,,,17-13 17-14 ,18-14 19-14 ,,20-15 22-15 ,22-16 22-18

[Stanford reached game point on a service error, and then finished
the game with a kill by Harvey on a quick set from Robinson].

  ,7-9 8-9 ,,9-10 11-10 ,,12-11 14-11 ,14-12 14-13 ,,15-14 15-16
    ,,16-17 16-18 ,,17-19.
  ,,,19-20 20-20 ,,21-21 23-21 ,,24-22 26-22 ,,27-23 29-23 ,,30-24
[Stanford got a side-out on a Harvey kill on a slide play, for
27-23. A Nnamani kill followed by a Harvey block brought the
Cardinal to match point. Brewster got a kill for a side-out,
but Harvey got a kill on a quick set for the match].

And now we wait to see what the selection committee makes of all this.

Take care, and good luck.

Finally, here is the official word:

14-11 as Notre Dame called their first timeout. The
Fighting Irish regrouped and went on a five-point run to
take the 17-16 lead but the Cardinal would hang tough to
take back the lead at 23-22 on an Ogonna Nnamani kill.
UND would take their final timeout trailing 22-25.

a dump by Katie Goldhahn. Stanford continued to roll,

with Stanford holding a slim 15-13 advantage at the
media timeout. Notre Dame tied the game at 16-all and
forced a Cardinal timeout when they pushed the lead to
two at 20-18. Stanford regained the lead at 22-21 in a
