The problem that I saw was the fact that in a tournament setting, you have to allow for the possibility fo the match going to 5. They have to allow for the same length if not more that the old 3 game system Texas used in years past. You can't start early for fan reasons and every match I saw on Friday went only three games. There was a much larger dead space between matches, but if they didn't allow for the extra time as I found out on Saturday, they would have gotten really behind if even half the matches went 4 or 5 games. I saw 2- 5 game matches on Saturday and they were probably longer than most of the three game matches I've seen. I'm talking strickly in Texas because I know other states use to use 5 game SO scoring before. That does make a difference. I'm just pointing out that given my length of time at the tournament, I saw more volleyball matches in the same length of time with the old SOS. This was something I really didn't think about before about the rally system. I'm sure they will make some adjustment to the format since this was the first year. On another note.... The relaxed handling rules are driving me crazy.... I have noticed a rather large increase in the use of taking the ball with the hands, not just on 1st over situations. The way they are handling the ball I have absolutely NO IDEA what is a lift or a throw anymore. I'm waiting for the ball to be reinvented that has handles on it so they can grab it to throw to their teammate.... It looks to me like THEY AIN'T CALLIN' NOTHIN' ANYMORE.... I use to think I was the worst setter in the world... I'm not anymore... My backyard setting looks pretty damn good these days... hee-hee-hee...
