The rolling gives you a deep tissue massage on the area of your leg
that is killing you.  I actually use a wooden rolling pin (don't laugh
it was born of necessity one sleepless night) In the sitting position
you can roll it over the outside of you thigh, lateral side of your
knee and around the achilles area of your lower calf.

One of the other post spoke of cleat shims and that is a good way to
prevent this problem, I think Lemond makes some.
