A complete overstatement. Tennis (and most other sports as well) in
Australia at least  has ALWAYS been open to the masses. And if you check out
your tennis history you'll see that almost every tennis champ in amateur
days came from fairly humble origins and certainly weren't the bluebloods
you imagine they were.
