Re: Clijsters out of Olympics

Comments? Well, a) I find it very difficult to believe that "no one" was
interested in Clijsters two years ago. In Novbember 2001, Clijsters was
what, 18? 19? She was the FO runner-up, had won some titles, was clearly
one to watch for the future, and the highest-ranked player Belgium had
ever had. b) The Olympics are ten months away, so there's plenty of time
for people to change their minds eight or nine more times -- the timing
makes me wonder if this is a negotiating threat rather than a genuine
decision. c) If her father is indeed responsible not only for this
decision but for the anti-JHH steroid allegations earlier this year, then
we have another insane tennis parent on our hands. d) In the long run, the
lost opportunity will be a bigger loss to Clijsters than to Belgium.
