I really only communicate in English, but are Norwegian, Swedish,
Finnish, etc., similar enough that each (N, S or F) can understand 
a running TV commentary in one of the other languages? 

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.  Keep in mind that I
learned all the Swedish I know from the Muppets:
