Rikishi Talk Day 13 Kyushu Basho 2003

Rikishi Talk Day 13 Kyushu Basho
================================

Kaio (vs Asashoryu)
-------------------
-Finally showing a sense of the presence.
"Well it's certainly been a while. My sumo style is to
attack from left. It just naturally flowed into that
way today."

Asashoryu (vs Kaio)
-------------------
"It was a waste. My arms and legs are out of
balance...I got too anxious. But I thought I won it.
Damn("Chikusho")!"

Kitanoumo oyakata, chair of the Kyokai
--------------------------------------
"As a rikishi with a set form, (Kaio) should be
feared. The outcome wasn't really unexpected. Now it's
anyone's game. I can't begin to predict what will
happen."

Musoyama (vs Tamanoshima)
-------------------------
"I am approaching each bout with full concentration.
If I give up now, it will be the end of stroy. I just
have to go out there and do the best job I can."
-Only one more win to escape the Kadoban.
"This going back forth between victory and defeat in
the last rounds is hard on body and mind."

Dejima (vs Takekaze)
---------------------
(Still with only three losses)
"I am using my feet and I am moving well."
-What about the Yusho?
"That is very unlikely, guys."

Tochinonada (vs Toki)
-----------------
(All smiles with gaining a Kachikoshi, a real
possibility of Sanyaku promotion and Sansho award)
"After losing on Day 1 by doing a 'slap-down', I just
decided to keep moving forward since then.""

Tochiazuma (vs Chiyotaikai)
---------------------------
(Could not hide a little smile after seeing Asashoryu
losing as well)
"At the end my foot just slipped. If I could have gone
lower...but he got me move up higher. Of course I will
be lying to you people if I tell you I am not tired at
all but right now all I could do is to focus on my own
sumo."
(On facing Kaio rather than Asashoryu tomorrow as
normally expected)
"I was all gearing up to go against the yokozuna. They
must be playing some kind of game."

Chiyotaikai (vs Tochiazuma)
---------------------------
Both my hands and feet are responding well and I am
moving forward. This was the best or second best bout
of this basho. I felt he appeared to be pretty
nervous. I am really happy that I could win here in
front of the local fans."
-About sore neck.
"If I am stepping forward like today, I have no
problem. This is the Kyushu basho, the basho to wrap
up the whole year so I will try to do my best to
concentrate on my style."
-Meeting Asashoryu tomorrow.
"I don't feel any anxiety especually. I just have to
go out with all I've got."

Takanonami (vs Wakatoba)
------------------------
(Another makekoshi, now the sixth straight)
"It really kills me to lose to the guy I have not
faced before. I should be invincible against the "new
face". Well I just want to say I will do my best
again next year."
