>>> It sounds like you umpires don't like the way the girls around here play softball. I enjoy it enormously the way it is. <<< Jerr, If you like collisions, I would recommend Ivy ice hockey or west coast rugby, girls play both. Sarcasm aside, I am a coach. I don't like the current practice of bodily blocking a bag on backdoor plays. I am sorry if we are intruding on your enjoyment. My own daughter is quite capable of playing the game and hold a decided advantage with such the rule administered as it was, but I'd rather not see the wrecks, and hope they occur less with the new obstruction language. Here's the deal, if a runner leads out and the 1st sacker or 2B steps in between, there are pushing wars going on when there are not even throws. You might think this is quaint. You might even like to see it escalate into a runner putting her helmet on the chin of such an obstructing fielder. I don't. There's plenty of legit takeout slides, batter's hit by pitch, wrecks at first on errant throws, outfielders colliding on flyballs, coaches and umpires bumping belly in anger, etc. Isn't that enough?
