Just because I didn't respond to you in what you believe a timely fashion should indicate to you that I have a life outside the subject of softball, though sometimes it doesn't seem so. d:-) I believe I already stated this in a previous post. The player should receive the ball THEN move into the basepath. If a fielder has their back to the play, then maybe then need to turn a little bit so they don't. The throw should always be received from in front of the play because, as you stated, the ball could hit the runner (which means they were far enough ahead of the play they most likely would have been safe anyhow), and the defense would at least lose the opportunity to attempt to get an out.
