Lighting systems

Hello all,
I'm wondering what experience you've had with lighting systems for night
skating.  I've been looking into the Halogen systems, and the the
super-bright and considerably more spendy HID systems (Nightrider, Light and
Motion, Cateye, etc.)
Most of the reviews however, are from cyclists, and what is adequate (or
even overkill) for RIDING at night is quite different from what's required
to SKATE (smaller sticks, stones, changes in countour, etc.)
Experience or suggestions?
