Meeting spot: Skate Escape, located next to Piedmont Park at 12th Street & Piedmont. Skate Escape will stay open until 7 p.m. for any last-minute equipment purchases. You can leave your bags on the luggage truck parked outside the store and pick them up after the skate. You'll be hungry, so take advantage of the special A2A menu and prices from Willy's, located directly across from Skate Escape. There will be an outside table set up for skater orders. Choose from 4 yummy items with special A2A prices, including burritos and salads with vegan and vegetarian options. Order and pay for your food before the skate and it will be ready for pickup when you return at 8:45. Eat at the casual inside and outside tables or take it with you on the bus to Athens. 7-8:45 p.m. - Friday Night Skate This fun roll through Atlanta goes at a social pace with police escort, and lets you preview the last few miles of the course. We roll out at 7 p.m. from Skate Escape at 12th Street & Piedmont and return at 8:45. 9 p.m. - Bus to Athens leaves from Skate Escape. SATURDAY -- ATHENS Noon-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Packet Pickup and Late Registration You must pick up your packet TODAY from the Expo at the Classic Center at 300 N. Thomas Street in Athens. NO PACKET PICKUP on Sunday. Here you can also register or make last-minute changes to your preferred distance (this may incur a change fee.) Be sure to consult your A2A program inside your packet for times and locations of different happenings. Noon-6p.m.- A2A Expo at the Athens Classic Center Meet your friends and check out the latest skater products and services. Times TBA - Course Check Skates Rolling out from the Classic Center, check out the beginning of the course. One skate will be fast-paced, another leisurely/social. Please stay within sight of your skate leader(s) as there is much construction on the UGA campus. 6-7 p.m. - MANDATORY! Henry's Skaters' & Drivers' Meeting. Get updates on bag transfer and bus transportation, and hear about course changes / road issues. 7:15-7:45 - Optional - GIRSA/A2A Regular Members' Meeting If you have registered for or sponsored A2A or another GIRSA event in the past year, you're a Regular Member! Join us to discuss the future of Athens-to-Atlanta, including our plans to incorporate a Triple Crown and announce the officers for year 2004. This will be your opportunity to show your support and hear what's in store for the future. SUNDAY -- ATHENS-TO-ATLANTA 5:15a.m. - Team-in-Training Bus, Atlanta TNT skaters board the bus from Atlanta to Athens. This is for TNT-ers ONLY. Arrival time: 7 a.m. 7:30 a.m. SHARP! - 87-mile and 38-mile Start from Classic Center in Athens The 38 & 87 mile distance events roll out from the Athens Classic Center. Don't be late, we won't wait! 8a.m.- 52-Mile Event Bus Skaters doing the 52-mile event board bus from the Athens Classic Center to start line near Dacula. 10a.m.- 52-Mile Event Start from Dacula All Day - Skate Daze and Finish, Dacula and Piedmont Park Skaters happily finish their 38-mile distance in Dacula and their 52- and 87-mile events in Atlanta's Piedmont Park. Piedmont Park plays host to the Skate Daze Expo, with fun stuff to watch and do all day long. Blimpie sandwiches await all participants at the Atlanta finish line. Course closes at 5 p.m. 6-8 p.m. - Awards Ceremony The beautiful Park Tavern, located near Piedmont Park at 10th Street and Monroe, hosts the awards ceremony. Please plan to stay in Atlanta for it! You must be present to claim your prize, or have someone receive your prize for you. Skaters who use the sweep vehicle will not be eligible for prizes. 8 p.m.-Midnight - Party at the Park Tavern! Bring your dancing shoes! We have the entire upstairs of the Park Tavern reserved for us, with a band on tap! Downstairs, a local radio station is sponsoring a Brewfest with live music.
