I think I will keep the pair I scored this year. Indeed, I'm starting to gather that it's the incremental crank-tightening mode that's hard on the teeth, and if you just use the "squeeze it yourself" method, this factory gear might last a long time. If not, it's just one rivet for the strap and one for the buckle. > They do have quite an open spot in the boot for ventilation, and would > get kind of cool in the weather I am skating in now, but what the heck > is duct tape made for anyway? Fla. this morning. Just put a thin "ski gator" on my head and over my ears, let some air out of "The Pump" helmet fit system, and went forth w/ thin turtleneck and usual shorts... all good, but my NOSE got quite red, and the wind was strong enough to simulate uphill and downhill-- woohoo, good slalom action... despite the shorts my socks ended up as wet as on a summer day. > Never have found a problem the duct tape wouldnt fix. Too true. Caught one ex-GF using it on her NOSE in lieu of Biore' strips to suck out the hardened oil and blackheads--and it worked! Now, when no is looking, I use it to keep my eyebrows from joining forces--OUCH!--LOL!!
