I don't understand why a lot of people have to downplay the importance of Olympic Gold just because Michelle Kwan did not win it. She is a fantastic skater. one of the best in the history of Figure Skating, and yes, she did not win the most prestigious award. It's a rare thing that arguably the best skater of her time did not get the most important award but it can happen. I does not make her a worse skater, and it does not make the Olympic Gold medal less prestigious. It just means that she
was outskated in this the most important competition. But like people pointed out, she did outskate her rivals in other, less important competitions. I just feel that downgrading the medal just because Michelle did not get is is disrespectful to other skaters who got it, or simply competed for it, and to the sport itself.
