Thus, in skating, spirals have "amplitude" when the free leg is held extremely high. But Joseph Sabovcic's single tuck axel has amplitude in that it is a high and exaggerated in form (look to John Misha Petkevich's jumps for amplitude -- height, form, distance, "hang time"). Yagudin's entire performance usually has amplitude of expression. Shen/Zhao's split triple twist has amplitude (amazing height), and so does Sale/Pelletier's (height, form and an in your face catch-and-setdown). Kwan's full-body extension has amplitude. This is one accepted/valid sense of "amplitude", but it's not the only one that's valid. janet
