> The height of the vault is not produced by speeding down the board, Is everybody really this dense ? Amplitude in sports refers to "exceeding the norm" in an element. LADY, it ain't got nothing to do with technique. However, I'd give both of you a +3 for TOTALLY missing the point. Every element in all 3 sports can be judged for AMPLITUDE in the element. That means STRETCH, CONTROL, speed, FLIGHT, DISTANCE, LIFT ( that is a dance term !!! ). That is how elements can become important in the final score regardless of whether the element is jumps, dance, spins, footwork .... or Tsukes, full in back outs, stalders, or layouts on beam .... or reverse 2 1/2, inward 3 1/2, front 2 !/2 with 3 twists, or, God help me, back 3 1/2 off tower ( I luved that stinking .... ! ). Nicole Bobek has tremendous AMPLITUDE in all of her dance elements ... which should have easily offset her difficiencies in the jumps. But, as was always clear to me, the skating judges were a bunch of untrained amateurs operating in a naive judging system. CoP should turn that around. johns
