Gymnastics, diving .. and now that CoP is here, I probably understand FS judging much better than anyone else here, since is it based on gymnastics and diving judging .. as Dick Button pointed out several times last year. Amplitude in the CoP system runs -3 to +3 .. and means quality, extension, technically correct, flight ... especially flight, and more. You know it when you see it. Nicole Bobek has always had that in her dance ... amplitude of position where she doesn't have to roll her hips up to the side to hit a high scale position ... like MKwan always had to do. And, she has her chest lifted and head up in those positions .. again unlike MKwan who could never do that. Plus Nicole "shows" her positions .. that is the position is held in balance longer to show her control. Others, especially Oksana, cannot do that. They just "throw" to the position and so it lacks "amplitude", and is not "shown". Aside: I certainly do thank the powers that be that finally nobody is going to listen to the bad sports and know- it-alls who haunted RSSIF for so many years. Guess what! Now you are going to have to call your shots and stop whining about "artsy-farsty merit" and total unknowns that the old Judges could use to prop their Chevy Sales Ladies with. Now, it is the SPORT OF FIGURE SKATING ... and I'm going to go do my sport in exactly 43 minutes. Nyahh! johns
