Top players that have been playing hard in the months before wouldn't get
that damn rusty. They could play every day of the week, but that would
hardly improve their game. Going into the big games 100% fit and 100 %
alert is pretty dangerous combination to be up against. The Aussies weren't
a weak worn out team after playing a lot of rugby, that team was selected
and ready for what was left of the All Blacks which is why the Aussies ran
circles around them. Though they shouldn't have got more than half the
penalties that they did end up getting - a good All Black captain should've
told his team to show more control when playing just in front of their own
posts. The Aussies were laughing at getting penalty after penalty.

Each game is also a very different one, you can't get rusty from a game
which you haven't even played yet. Playing against some weak gutless team
knocking up almost 100 points against is hardly going to make much
differnece from when it comes to playing the Aussies.
The top players should've been completely off the booze and in the gym
working out to be completely fit to play against the Aussies - not have them
running round getting buggered in the minor games beforehand.
