Re: the constantly moving seat

It's obvious that the wheels will (adn should) stay stationary for
quite some time at the finish, but at the catch the time is so small
as to appear to be a quite instantaneous change of direction. Like a
pendulum, we know it must stop and reverse, but the moment of
stillness is very short.

"Infinitesimal", was the word I used, which mathematically describes what happens if a body is accelerating constantly. Not necessarily easy to achieve in a boat. But it's the suggestion of the "infinitesimal" time at backstops that has my bollocks detectors ringing out loud.

Surprised His Eminence has chosen to sleep on this one!

Without rising to anything above (H.E. - who he?), I thought all this nonsense about what seat wheels should or shouldn't do was already put into proper (i.e. vastly distant) perspective by my waffle in the thread on "wheels at the catch".

You don't pull with the seat wheels; your bum is but distantly connected to the handle & the stretcher; & the wheels have a somewhat distant & elastic relationship to even your hip joint. Next you'll be worrying your pretty little heads over the exact distance you're allowed to slide through the line of the pins. BTW, how many angels did they say could stand on the head of a thole pin?

Turns over & goes back to sleep.
