Without rising to anything above (H.E. - who he?), I thought all this nonsense about what seat wheels should or shouldn't do was already put into proper (i.e. vastly distant) perspective by my waffle in the thread on "wheels at the catch".

It's obvious that the wheels will (adn should) stay stationary for quite some time at the finish, but at the catch the time is so small as to appear to be a quite instantaneous change of direction. Like a pendulum, we know it must stop and reverse, but the moment of stillness is very short.
"Infinitesimal", was the word I used, which mathematically describes what happens if a body is accelerating constantly. Not necessarily easy to achieve in a boat. But it's the suggestion of the "infinitesimal" time at backstops that has my bollocks detectors ringing out loud.
