I seem to have the opposite problem - at 6'3" most ladies I have doubled with tend to be significantly shorter, and find themselves having to slow their "slide" down an uncomfortable amount in order to stay with me if I am at stroke. I row a shorter arc in a mixed double (at bow) than I do in the single, and so presumably than I do at stroke in the double. Of course the lack of yellow-disc-onna-stick indicates that I'm not the world's best sculler. The steering thing is also significant - I've steered coxless boats, and sculled, on the stretch(es) I row on quite a lot more than any of the ladies I've doubled with. And I've seen some of them drive cars...
