As reported on the Tideway Slug:
"Though cancelling one of the major Tideway heads is never a popular option, it was generally agreed to have been the correct decision, however, (as if to prove why we call it the "Nutters head") down at Putney following the race the slug heard several scullers complaining that they felt the water had been rowable... well, perhaps if you're an elite sculler who knows the Tideway well, but inexperienced scullers or those less familiar with the river may not have been quite so confident... "
A case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't" maybe.
