I think one of the tricky things with practical experience in this case is that everyone has the same practical experience regardless of what they believe. The principles of coaching a good catch, finish etc. probably aren't affected by understanding the physics behind the stroke so it's easy to have an opinion. Actually measuring lift etc in an oar can't possibly be cost effective, so your best bet is combining the theory with the practical observation that hydrofoils work. Ben
