I dunno about the appeal.  I find the happiest and most sucessful
relationships in my life and in the lives of people I know tend to be
where the woman is domiant and somewhat ballbusting, though not
bitchy.  It's a fine line, but I don't think the men who pick a
passive female are very happy in the long run.
