It's a good question. I remember when videotaped movies first came out and it was this big revelation--wow, I can actually OWN a movie I like and watch it WHENEVER I want. Then, over the years, it became clear that most movies aren't worth multiple watchings, even if you kind of liked them the first time; plus, most movies were easily rentable.
So for adults (I'm excluding kids that like to watch the same movie 47 times over the course of a month), it seems like buying only makes sense when it's some big, sentimental favorite that you really WILL watch many times and/or it's a movie that's relatively hard to find at your local store.
The other thing to remember, though, is the "gift" factor. People know you like "The Simpsons"? Expect to get the DVDs as gifts.--Joe (n.j.) [mWo]
I'm finished with 4 of the 5 discs of Crime Story-Season 1. Some DVDs you must own. Curb season 1 comes out in Jan
