[WWW] NWA TNA 10.26.03 Mike Tenay column

http://www.nwatna.com/interact/professor/2003/10/26/professor.shtml

I hope that you had a chance to catch our most recent TNA PPV
(10/22/03). I thought it was a very solid show with a strong emphasis
on our in-ring product. The Night Of Champions event produced one new
titleholder as Jeff Jarrett regained the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title
by defeating A.J. Styles. NWA Worlds Tag Champs, Simon Diamond and
Johnny Swinger, and X Division Champion, Michael Shane, all retained
their belts in very competitive matches.

Check out this Wednesday's (10/29/03) PPV to find out who the
legendary manager "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart is bringing to TNA
to counter Jeff Jarrett's brutal attack. Hart has managed a veritable
"Who's Who" of the wrestling business and has connections with many
superstars of the past and present. And I have to wonder if/when Hulk
Hogan will make his presence felt.

Wrestling historians agree that Rowdy Roddy Piper and Greg "The
Hammer" Valentine were involved in one of the most vicious and violent
Dog Collar matches in the history of our business. Now, less than a
month shy of the 20 year anniversary of their famous Starrcade battle,
Raven and Vampiro will meet this Wednesday in the Gallows of
Retribution/Hangman's Horror match. Four dog collars with chains will
be attached to the ring corners. Win the match by hanging your
opponent over the top rope until he passes out. Raven promises to
eclipse the brutality of the Piper-Valentine classic this week.

Sonjay Dutt is in for the biggest match of his 2 year career when he
challenges Michael Shane for the X Division title. Former tag team
partners turned rivals meet again when Kid Kash faces Abyss. Add two
tag team bouts, featuring the NWA vs. TNA power struggle and AMW's
on-going grudge with Glen Gilberti, and you have the recipe for 2
hours of Total Non Stop Action. See you Wednesday night!

FROM: BRUNO (LISBON, PORTUGAL)
Hey Professor, where are Jerry Lynn, Amazing Red and Low-Ki ... and
will they be back in TNA?

ANSWER:
Lynn and D-Lo Brown walked out of TNA after being mistreated by
Management Consultant Don Callis. Their return hinges on the power
struggle between the NWA and TNA much like Roddy Piper. I would expect
all three to return at some point in the future to challenge Callis'
authority. Red was scheduled for knee surgery last Thursday (10/23/03)
and expects to return to the ring in about six months. Low-Ki has been
competing for the Zero-One promotion in Japan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: TIM (CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA)
Who from the WWE roster would you want to see on TNA?

ANSWER:
I receive this question almost weekly. Tim also asked about several
WWE wrestlers by name. Because WWE talent is signed to exclusive
contracts I'm not able to comment until they become free agents.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: CHRIS RECKER
I've been a huge fan of Sabu since his days in ECW. I was wondering
where he is still wrestling, if he is still wrestling?
ANSWER:
I still see Sabu's name associated with several independent
promotions. In addition to wrestling in his home state of Michigan, I
see him billed for JAPW (Jersey All Pro) in New Jersey and 3PW in
Philadelphia in upcoming weeks

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: PAT BROWN
I was wondering where "Grandmaster Sexay" Brian Lawler has been. I
remember him being on the first TNA shows and then returning with Erik
Watts and David Flair. But where is he now?

ANSWER:
Lawler's most recent appearances have been for the Memphis Wrestling
group which also features Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee and Doug Gilbert
among others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: BILL SAVIDGE (DOVER, DELAWARE)
Wrestling misses the commentary of Bobby Heenan terribly. He was/is
one of the funniest guys I've heard do wrestling commentary. Get well
soon Bobby!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: JOSH WHITE
I have been a longtime fan of your work since your debut in WCW in
1993 hosting "The Hotline". This is an old WCW question. I figured if
anybody could answer it, it would be you. There was a Spanish wrestler
that the commentators billed as having the hardest right hand in the
business (or WCW). He had a mullet and I think wore gold tights on
occasion.

ANSWER:
I believe you would be talking about El Dandy, a luchador from Mexico,
who was a multi-time NWA World Welterweight and Middleweight Champion
before joining WCW. Dandy has been wrestling recently for the AAA
promotion in Mexico, a group that is looking to work with TNA in the
future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: CALCOX9169
Where is Steve Keirn?
ANSWER:
Formerly one-half of the Fabulous Ones tag team, Keirn lives in the
Tampa, Florida area where he operates a wrestling school.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: RANDY MAKER (NEW YORK CITY)
Is there any chance of The Insane Clown Posse making an appearance in
TNA?

ANSWER:
I know that the possibility has been discussed. Nosawa, who wrestles
for ICP's JCW promotion, has appeared quite frequently on TNA PPVs as
of late.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: DAVE (AUSTRALIA)
What's happened to Buff Bagwell? Not seen or heard from him in a
while.

ANSWER:
Buff is a regular on the independent circuit in North America. I've
seen his name appear in recent weeks on shows in Missouri, North
Carolina, Virginia, and Ontario, Canada among others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: JOSEPH VASQUEZ
Just wanted to say you're one of the best announcers in the biz. I was
wondering about your thoughts on Ring Of Honor. I am a big fan of tag
matches and I think AMW are going to be huge in the coming years. I
would love to see them against the best teams of Japan and Mexico ...
any chance?
ANSWER:
I really enjoy the Ring Of Honor events that I've seen on videotape.
They have a great roster that includes many stars who also appear on
TNA PPVs. I think it's inevitable that we'll see AMW against top
international stars since TNA has entered into an agreement with New
Japan Pro Wrestling and is working on a deal with Mexico's AAA.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: BIG MIKE (GEORGETOWN, KY.)
Big fan of TNA. Any chance that we will see big names from Japan
competing
in the X Division?

ANSWER:
I think it's a natural. Look for the likes of Jushin Liger and Tiger
Mask to eventually be in the X Division.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: JASON PRESLEY (HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA)
What's the difference between EMLL and CMLL?
ANSWER:
Same Mexico City-based promotion. EMLL stands for Empressa Mexicana
de Lucha Libre. CMLL is Consejo Mundial Lucha Libre.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: ANTHONY SANTIAGO (UNION BEACH, N.J.)
Is Raven ever going to get Vampiro one on one? They are my two
favorite wrestlers and I'd like to see them go at it, one on one, with
no interruptions.
ANSWER:
You get your wish this Wednesday (10/29/03) on the TNA PPV in a
Hangman's Horror match. See my preview of the show above for more
details.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: BETH (NO.AUGUSTA, S.C.)
I just read that Hulk Hogan was hurt and that Bound For Glory was
cancelled. Any truth to that?
ANSWER:
Hogan will be undergoing knee surgery very soon and the Bound For
Glory PPV will be rescheduled for early 2004. Keep checking this
website for more details.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FROM: TYLER SHEFER
I'm 10 years old and a fan since 2. Is there really going to be a
video game?

ANSWER:
Hang in there, Tyler. Yes, there's going to be a TNA Video Game in the
future. No exact timetable yet, but this website will have all the
information when available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: SHERRIE (GEORGIA)
I'm a big fan of David Young. Is he back on the PPV weekly?
ANSWER:
Yes, he's been on every TNA PPV for the past month or so. He's trying
to become an official member of Glen Gilberti's stable with Simon
Diamond and Johnny Swinger. Look for Young to team with Gilberti this
Wednesday (10/29/03) to meet America's Most Wanted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: PAUL SMITH
I was curious. Are you planning on writing an autobiography? With your
background and history and all the stories that you know, it would be
just a great read.
ANSWER:
It's certainly something I've strongly considered. I have thousands of
pages of notes, stories and a diary that I've kept for years. If the
right opportunity would present itself, I would love to do it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM: ARBOK947
Will Apollo ever return to TNA?
ANSWER:
I would think it's a strong possiblity. An association with Puerto
Rico's IWA group is being discussed and Dutch Mantell's presence in
the TNA offices surely helps.
