Ok...I thought you were gonna get seriously flamed for such a vague
and open ended question, but since Chris was civil enough to give you
a real answer...I'll follow suit :)

In speedball, the key to winning is.....COMMUNICATION! Of course there
are other skills you need (good snapshooting, speed, and knowing how
to "work" your bunker among them), but for most people, communication
is what makes or breaks a good team. Knowing where your team is, and
more importantly, where the other team is at all times can give you a
huge advantage.

When it comes to your opponents positions, most teams assign names to
the opponents bunkers. This can be as simple as "back right", home",
left laydown", or more complex, often involving a horizontal dimension
like "left 30 pillow", or "center 40 stand up" (the number part being
the relative position on the field from their start to the center
(50/50) of the field, kinda like a football field). Knowing (and
communicating) this info to your team mates gives you a huge advantage
in knowing where to position yourself to take them out, and where to
be wary of possible incoming fire.

When it comes to your team, it is not always easy to know EXACTLY
where everybody is, particularly if they are behind you. One thing
that does help is simply keeping track of who is in, and who is out.
We use the "balls and strikes" method. If somebody on the other team
is eliminated, we will call that as "strike one", loud enough for all
team members to hear. Next guy out on their team is "strike two", etc.
When somebody on our team goes out, we call "ball one", "ball two"
etc..(but remember, the person eliminated cannot call the "ball" as it
were...after calling out, dead men tell no tales! :-) )

Knowing how many are left on both sides, and where they are at all
times wiil give you a huge advantage over a team that is unsure. They
will be tentative..you can be agressive. They will move blindly, you
can move with confidence and purpose. And if you are the last man on
your team against 4 or more of them, it gives you time to say your
prayers and cover your balls before they gang bunker you!
