Re: Paintball Compressor Question

I don't think a blowback would be an option. As I recall the lowest
Billy could get a Spyder to run was around 300 psi. I think you would have
to stick with LP electro's. Maybe some Bushy's if they can run at that low
a pressure. I suppose it would be easy to test out the theory. Just get
the intended markers and plug them all into 4-way manifolds that eventually
feed to the main compressor tank. 16 markers pulling air at the same time
seems like an awful heavy load for a regular compressor though. If you
figure about 400 shots on a 45 ci tank at 3000 psi and thinking that each
marker in the gallery gets lets say 50 shots a round we are talking
consuming about 2 maybe 3 tanks worth of air per round. I can get about 3
good fills on a 114 from my 80 cf tank and then the fills are sub 2000 psi
so I could probably get about 4 or 5 good fills on a 45 ci tank.

Hmmm...thinking about it now, he could probably get away with only 2
SCUBA tank reservoirs, one HP compressor and a cheap $30 reg on each
markers' gas feed. Still sounds pretty cheap to me. You can use 8 way
blocks to feed the markers off two manifolds. Each tank gets one manifold
and build in a crossover tube so that you have some redundancy and failsafe
capability. I still think the HP option is the best. If the guy can't find
the parts he needs, any machinist could make some stainless steel 8-way
manifolds for each bank without a problem. The big benefit with the HP
solution is that if the compressor goes down, he has a way of making things
work in an emergency (go rent some SCUBA tanks or big CO2 cylinders for the
day) and with the manifolding system he can shut down half the range if it
is ever necessary. There isn't much failsafe capability with a single low
pressure compressor, considering that it's big and there is no possibility
to run CO2 in an emergency with the low pressure lines. Also, if an electro
is the only marker that will work well, you have the electronics and
batteries to worry about.

I wonder exactly what the old bb-gun shooting games used? Probably a
regular compressor, since BB's don't require much air. Remember those that
had machine guns and you tried to shoot out the star? I won my first fair
prize after shooting out 3 stars. :-)
