Ancient Olympics

Hi!
I've been studying the ancient olympics in one of my classes this
semester.
Our teacher has asked that we complile some information about peoples
opinions on the olympics, and I've decided to take a survey on the
ancient olympics.

Do you think they were better than the modern olympics or merelely a
starting point for something that has gotten much greater over time?

When were olympics more civilized?  

What do you think the reason for having the ancient olympics was as
compared to the reson for the modern olympics?

Do you think the ancient Greeks had better events than we do now?

I've posted this question to classicists as well as athletes, and any
thoughts you're willing to share would be great!
