Scott. Try to use your brain and common sense. I do not perform service work. I teach engine designs, machine shop procedure and I build custom engines. My customer base consist of group of people who experienced catastrophic failure of the equipment and are looking for longevity and prevention. By the time pump noise is detected many times it is to late to prevent expensive jet pump damage. Yes I strongly recommend to repack new bearings with quality high temperature marine grease. Must bearings are not designed for marine application, they are packed with lubricants to be used in land. I do not suggest that you drag your customers in your shop and rip in to jet pump. I do suggest to inform them in possibility of high cost parts replacement in case of failure. Consider parts replacement such as shaft, impeller and housing, it makes sense to look inside of the pump after each season. It is good practice and it feels great to know that you have done your part in prevention. It is customers decision to do what he wants, not yours or my. In my opinion Kawasaki should have use roller bearing to support heavy trust of the impeller. I have seen units with expensive high mod engines suffering from loss of power due to induced drag of the partially damaged jet pump ball bearings. Ball bearing designed to absorb vertical trust of the shaft, they do not perform well in horizontal trust application. You do what you like and I will do what I must. One thing is certain HPT Sport USA jet pump modification has proven record of prolonged service life and decreased power loss due to friction.
