Just a word of warning, think twice about buying it. I was thinking I would get a two DVD set chock full of highlights, expecially from his Edmonton days, but what you get is John Davidson interviewing him about events in a chronological order, which is fine. You then have Kiefer Sutherland doing some "hosting". My question is why? I don't care if Sutherland is a hockey fan or not, he adds nothing to this video, other than to the amount of time you can't devote to Gretzky highlights. If you're like me, the Edmonton days are what you really want to see, and quite frankly they don't get near enough time. The early days start out ok, but once he wins the first Stanley Cup, it's right into the trade. All four Cups blur together. There are stories here, from the loss in '86 to Calgary to coming back against Philly in 87, to the most impressive win in 87-88, when not onlky did Edmonton lose the division for the first time in eons, Gretzky also lost the scoring title, but came back and played maybe his best hockey. No mention of the '83 All Star game where he as 4 goals in the 3rd. If you got your info from the DVD you would think the only AS games he played in were 1980 with Gordie Howe and 1999, his last one. They spend a bit of time on the whole 3-4 days leading up to retirement, but other than....you have the 87 Canada Cup, but what about 84 and 91? The second disc promises bonues footage of never before seen stuff, so I'm thinking you'll get lots of edmonton on ice stuff. Nope, you get the wedding, 3 honoring ceremonies, Fantasy Camp, bloopers. The only good tihngs on the second disc are the last game in Canada and the last game. Basically it's video mopntage and there's no host talking over it, just Jim Hughson and Bob Cole from doing the actual telecasts. Overall though it seems as though they are trying to tell people how good Gretzky was instead of showing it, and how well they can package and do all the frilly stuff. I can see Davidson being there, and I don't mind how that part is done, but between that and Kiefer Sutherland, they have more air time then the highlights do, which is odd since, well, it's Gretzky's hockey that is the reason this was even possible in the first place. Anyway, just wanted to save the rest of you out there from tossing down the extra money. Buy some equipment instead.
