Just about every QB has been a backup at some stage of their careers. It is rare that a guy like Elway or Bledsoe or David Carr will start most of the games in their rookie season; even Dan Marino was platooned with Woodstrock during the first part of his rookie season. Terry Bradshaw was platooned with Joe Gilliam thru much of the 1974 season; by the end of the season Bradshaw had won the job. Staubach was platooned with Morton his first couple seasons in Dallas.
