Here are his up to the minute stats: 386 att, 223 com, 2571 yds, 13 TD, 16 INT Passer rating 71.9 By my calculations that puts him 26th in the league in passer rating. The fact is, Carter still sucks very badly as an NFL quarterback. He's young and has time to improve, but the question remains why TV announcers still feel obligated to say how well they think he is playing, how much they like him, as Simms did today, as Madden did a few weeks back, and so on. My best answers are: 1. The tendency to overrate quarterbacks in general. 2. The tendency to REALLY overrate quarterbacks on winning teams. In the case of Dallas, their defense has been superb, while their offense has shown only modest improvement. 3. The reluctance of announcers to honestly evaluate players in real time. 4. The fact that Carter looked SO bad a couple of years ago, and was considered a huge reach in the draft, makes anything good he does now look that much better in comparison.
